About Alpha Baldeh, Founder of Alpha Community Health Centre

Born into an extended family, Alpha is the oldest of eight children from his mother along with 18 other siblings from his other two stepmums. Alpha was bedbound most of his childhood due to osteomyelitis, an infection that causes pain and swelling in the long bones in the legs. Because Alpha couldn’t contribute the household in the traditional way, he was sent to school.

As Alpha grew into an adult he developed short-term and long-terms goals that all shared a common vision, to help provide healthcare services to his community. Alpha worked two jobs to save for his own education and with the support Julie Maio of Luigi’s Hotel, the Luigi family, and sponsorship, Alpha was able to complete his medical education in the UK.

Alpha says: ‘Meeting Chris has been the beginning of this journey to achieve a long-term goal of desire in helping others improve their lives. It gave everything a purpose and I then learnt from a wise woman who said it is better to teach people how to fish instead of giving them fish all the time.’
